Hi! I am Sophia Haley. I am a mother, wife, friend, researcher, yoga enthusiast, reader, writer, traveler, talker and above all: woman. I created this blog to provide an open forum for conversation about women in the Middle East. In college, I became very interested regionally in the Middle East and then thematically in the issue of women. I have spent several years studying cultural aspects, family dynamics, work environments, the rest of the world’s perceptions and self-perceptions in the regions.
Amra’a is the Arabic word for woman. This blog is intended to empower women and offer insight on the current situation of women in the region. Through it, I hope to empower, motivate and open the door to earnest dialogue. You can expect to read about personal experience, history, profiles of noteworthy women, current events and hopes for the future.
Welcome! Enjoy, read, comment and always ask questions.
